We are open Monday to Friday between 9.00am – 5.00pm. Isle Listen is not a crisis service and only offers planned interventions. Should you or someone you know be in need of immediate support outside of our office hours you should contact Manx Care’s 24 hour Crisis Response and Home Treatment Team on 01624 642860 or the Emergency Services on 999.

Tough Mucka Junior & ManXgames 2024

September 13, 2024

20th of July 2024 saw 140 of the island’s kids chase each other down through Poulsom Park, over hay bales, through tyres, under nets over walls and scramble nets and down the oldest road on the island, through the Silverburn, over some muddy mounds and through a maze of ferns.

We couldn’t believe what we saw! We saw competitors being, well, you know, competitive. We saw kids get out of their comfort zone beat our course into submission and the best part of all? We saw each race be supported with the biggest gusto Poulsom Park could give. Every kid was cheered over the line with the support deserved of an Olympian.

As we surveyed the exhausted piles of bodies, interviewing kids as they lay in their own triumph, I got nothing but beautiful smiles, thumbs up and thank yous. A very humbling experience.

Huge thank you to the parents, without you making kids do these events, there would be no event. I had the please of receiving this message from a father that travelled up from Rhumsaa, “Blown away by that event! My little man had the biggest smile on his face. People like Isle Listen are making it fun to live here again 👍”

Elliot went on to say,

“Between Isle Listen, Castletown Parks Charity, Isle of Play, IOM Quest, The Meadow and Compound, the island is on the way up in many ways and it’s all coming from good people just doing class things. I might be on a big high at the moment but I love it!!”. And isn’t that what its all about!

Big thank you to Isle of Man Creamery, without their support we wouldn’t have been in a position to give these kids this opportunity, also raising valuable funds and dispersing that stigma that surrounds the term ‘Mental Health’.

TMJ was followed by ManXgames 2024!!! Rain didn’t stop play on Saturday till 8pm but on Sunday, the clouds cleared, the sun kinda shined which meant the skaters came out to play. Trials bikers – Lilly Butterworth, Stan & Carter Cubbon and Trials Champion Kaytlyn Adshead put on a display, showing the crowds how it is was done. The BMXers were out, kids of all ages and then the musicians all come together to celebrate the alternative.

Special thanks Kaytlyn Adshead, who took time from her very busy schedule to ride and lead the younger riders through their lines, always teaching always leading, a proper Manx legend! Same next year, lets hope so!

So, it just leaves me to say a long overdue GURA MIE EU to those people, who without their help, events like these for our young people, wouldn’t go ahead.
