We are open Monday to Friday between 9.00am – 5.00pm. Isle Listen is not a crisis service and only offers planned interventions. Should you or someone you know be in need of immediate support outside of our office hours you should contact Manx Care’s 24 hour Crisis Response and Home Treatment Team on 01624 642860 or the Emergency Services on 999.

Isle Listen in schools

In-school mental health support and educational programme to meet schools’ needs for children, teachers and parents.

We aim to equip the Island’s young people with the skills and resilience to navigate the mental health and emotional challenges of 21st century life

By providing education, early intervention and prevention skills, it is our aim to alleviate pressure on statutory health services and to avoid the unnecessary escalation of mental health problems which can make recovery more difficult the longer they go undiagnosed.

We believe that every student should have access to effective mental health support at the point of need, not the point of availability.

What we can support with

As an early intervention and prevention initiative, Isle Listen supports with low-level mental health and wellbeing concerns.

We can support with

  • School related concerns or worries e.g. exam pressure
  • Friendship and relationship difficulties
  • Low-level bullying concerns
  • Difficulties at home e.g. parental conflict, parental separation
  • Any low-level mental health concern e.g. worry or low mood, self-esteem

We don’t support with

  • Eating disorders
  • Psychotic illness or symptoms
  • Neurodevelopmental conditions
  • Addiction or substance misuse
  • Diagnosed disorders or symptoms at a clinical level where an individual regularly receives support from CAMHS or alternative services
  • Suicidal intent
  • Significant risk-taking behaviours

How can we help?

Transitions in life are never easy and it’s completely ok to not feel ok.

But when stresses move from being a tough couple of weeks to a tough couple of months, we recognise that you might need some extra support to get you back to feeling awesome again.

We offer a range of services within schools and at our Therapy Suite, to support young people with their mental health.

Education

Our Wellbeing Facilitators work within secondary and primary schools, with children as young as 8 years old, educating students about mental health through classroom-based sessions and assemblies.

Listening Service

Within secondary schools we offer a confidential low level 1-to-1 listening service in which our Wellbeing Practitioners help students to manage their feelings with concerns such as exam pressure, friendship worries, bullying, social media difficulties and low self-esteem.

Therapeutic Support

For those that require a higher-level of support we have a team of experienced and qualified therapeutic professionals that can offer a broad range of psychological therapy, from our Therapy Suite.

Accessing our service

If you feel that you need some additional support with your mental health, please speak to a member of staff at your school about accessing our Listening Service.

Our Listening Service is confidential, within the parameters of safeguarding policies of the individual schools and our governance board, and offers a private space for you to talk about what’s worrying you whether that be school, relationships, friendships, exam stress or anything else you’d like to talk to someone about.

Looking after your own wellbeing

It can be worrying when you, or someone you care about, is experiencing a difficult time. Here is some useful information and advice to look after and support your mental health and wellbeing.

We know looking after children and young people isn’t always easy.

Whilst it is incredibly rewarding watching them grow up, it can feel especially difficult if their mood and behaviour seems different and you’re not sure why, or what you can do to help. But you are not alone.

Primary schools

We engage with parents and carers to educate on how they can facilitate conversations with their children about mental health and wellbeing, and create a supportive home environment.

Secondary schools

We help parents and carers to understand some of the common issues that young people face, and what they can do to support them.

How we can help

Do you have worries, concerns or unanswered questions?

We offer regular ‘drop ins’ at our Centres in Douglas and Castletown, where you can come along and informally chat to members of our schools and therapeutic teams about any worries, concerns or unanswered questions you might have about a young person’s mental health and wellbeing.

Greater responsibilities continue to fall to educational and teaching staff.

Our aim is to support you to be comfortable in raising conversations around mental health and how to signpost to appropriate further specialist services.

Primary schools

We engage with teachers in the implementation of low-level education surrounding mental wellbeing and how to go about this practice effectively.

Secondary schools

We prepare teachers to recognise the appropriate signs and signals, while educating them on the appropriate points of contact to signpost.
