Celebrating Community for Mental Health Awareness Week
April 4, 2025
We are celebrating community this Mental Health Awareness Week (MHAW) and beyond. MHAW takes place from 12th-18th May 2025.
About Mental Health Awareness Week
Mental Health Awareness Week, originally created by the Mental Health Foundation in the UK in 2001, is an initiative that highlights the importance of looking after our mental health. In recent years the week has focused on various themes from Movement, to Anxiety and Loneliness. The key message is preventing mental health problems, a topic at the very core of Isle Listen’s purpose.
Why Community?
Each year a theme is set by the Mental Health Foundation to highlight different struggles or ways we can take positive action. This year’s theme is ‘Community’, celebrating the importance and power of community when it comes to our mental health. Community and a good support network are vital to our mental health and wellbeing.
Living on the Isle of Man, we are lucky to be a part of such a strong and supportive Island community. Within our larger Island community there are many wonderful community groups, from sports clubs to those with a love of the outdoors, craft clubs, coffee mornings. Each of these communities can provide a sense of belonging, purpose and support for each other in hard times. How can you come together with your community this Mental Health Awareness Week?
Community Events this Mental Health Awareness Week
At Isle Listen we have a number of events planned with a focus on our Island community. We are starting Mental Health Awareness Week with a wonderful community collaboration event, Mindful Morning on Sunday 11th May. Mindful Morning is a collaborative event, kindly sponsored by Ramsey Crookall and is an expanded version of our annual sea dip events. We are teaming up with Morning Momentum to provide a guided run up Bradda Head, followed by a stretching session on the beach with our very own yogi Jess Bryan. After the stretch we will be undertaking a sea dip, advised by our wonderful local Coastguard and supported by St John’s Ambulance. After the dip you can enjoy Kishtey Cheh’s beach sauna, and food and drink from Cosy Noa. This event truly is the epitome of community.
Closer to the end of Mental Health Awareness Week, we are excited to be hosting the Isle of Man Dodgeball Championship on Friday 16th May, powered by Flutter International, and hosted by Active Souls. Another collaborative event, the championship is set to see some fun but friendly competition between the Island’s corporate and sporting teams from across our community.
Registration for both events is still open.
