Tin Baths 2024

September 10, 2024

It was possibly the sunniest day in 5 months, the air smelt of pure factor 50 as the Manx public lined the quayside of our ancient capital. In the shadow of my gggggggggggggggg grandfather’s homestead, Isle listen and Castletown Ale Drinkers, ( CADS ) linked arms and dove straight into some fun in the ushtey!

CADs are an institution and an inspiration, supporting people and charities in the Manx community for over 50 years.

For those who don’t know, the world tin bath championship is unique to the IOM. Held every year in Castletown middle Harbour, people from all over the world come to compete in what is literally, a tin bath race.

This year, Isle Listen was chosen as the event lead charity, and we defo didn’t need much pushing when it came to taking the plunge.

Last year, was the year I took the ores for the first time, due to some technical difficulties I sank, right before the start’n’finish. Due to last years disappointing effort I went on a strict diet, honing my tin bath skills and manifesting that finish line. Needless to say, I might have got a little heavier, I blame the fact I’m very hairy. So this year, to save the bath for someone a little more delicate we stuck to the snake race. A solid performance in the first heat with a promising second, earnt us automatic qualification to the final.

Nerves jangling, heart pumping we pounded, kicked and tried our best to cheat ourselves to the number one spot, but alas, we got a proud 4th, with Utmost collecting the top spot.

Dreams were shattered in the cool, salty warm ushtey that morning.

What a day, big up CAD, hero’s in red everywhere. You truly make a difference in people lives, you should be proud.
