Top 5 Tips on Goal Setting

March 20, 2024  |  by Natalie Cellamare

Many of us set ourselves goals daily, it could be “I need to do the washing when I get home from work”, or “I need to complete my monthly report by the 30th of the month”.

Work or home life we all have things to do, but we may procrastinate and change the day or time we do them and this could be based on our motivation or other priorities.

  1. Why? Think about what value are you going to get from this goal, the impact to you and whoever may be involved, will it be positive, measurable or will it avoid a risk from happening. Do you need input from anybody else such as a manager or relative.
  2. Time? Is there a timeframe to complete this goal, is it to your own clock or someone else’s? Consider what is involved.
  3. Breakdown/Dissect into small chunks in order to give you the best possible chance of achieving and keeps your focus in check. This is a good opportunity to evaluate how much time you require to complete each section or as a whole goal. Contemplate if you need support from someone else or gain knowledge in order to complete a chunk of the goal.
  4. Protect Your time! Block out time and protect your focus window, this is the most production part of your day when you can achieve so much more than the rest of the day.
  5. Reflect – how did you do it before and how would you do it again, would you change anything? What worked well and what didn’t? Be pleased and proud of your achievement. Self-cheerleading is so important to our wellbeing and provides motivation to achieve more in the future.
