Berlin Marathon Runners raise over £17,000 for Isle Listen
October 26, 2022
Sporting and fundraising challenges like these, enable us to continue helping young people’s mental health
Our amazing 2022 Berlin Marathon runners, Kerry Beattie, Megan Thomas, Lynsey Woods, Shaun McEntee, Tim Quayle and Gary Shaughnessy, have raised so far, £17,235.74!
As part of the runner’s amazing fundraising efforts, they organised raffles, quiz nights, race nights, cake sales and lots of other types of fundraising activities. Donations from family, friends and colleagues also helped as a massive boost to our runner’s morale, helping to raise as much money as they could
Kenya’s Kipchoge might have shattered his marathon world record in Berlin, but our 2022 Berlin Marathon runners have shattered our expectations by fundraising, so far, over £17,000 for Isle Listen
After 10 months of training and covering nearly 2,500 miles, Shaun McEntee was delighted to come in at 2hrs 38m 36s.
“Berlin did not disappoint” says Shaun, who is a keen runner and can often be seen pounding the streets of the Isle of Man. “Initially I had aimed to get the 2hr 45m qualifying time for this event, but I initially missed out on it. So, when I heard of the potential opportunity to run the Berlin for a charity close to my employer Robinson’s Fresh Foods heart, it was a no brainer to apply for a ballot place and raise money for a charity that is more crucial than ever on the island. All whilst doing something I enjoy.
Our Senior Psychotherapist Lynsey Woods also completed the marathon.
“The Berlin Marathon was everything I had expected and more….I feel incredibly proud to have been part of a fantastic team of runners and fundraisers this year, raising money for an incredibly important and worthwhile cause. Working for Isle Listen as a therapist, I see first-hand the demand for mental health early intervention for our young people on the island, and we rely on charitable fundraising to continue providing our essential services, free of charge.”
Megan says the Berlin Marathon is one to add to the marathon bucket list if you haven’t already!
Berlin was such an incredible experience with it being my first marathon outside of the UK. There was a buzzing atmosphere, with runners from all over the world. Having other runners from the Isle Listen team there also made it a really special experience. It is one to add to the marathon bucket list if you haven’t already!
I have been lucky enough to run marathons in the past, but doing Berlin was different. I was running for Isle Listen because having struggled with my own mental health I know firsthand how vital their support for mental health is. I am so proud to be part of something amazing and to support the incredible work that they do.
