Berlin Marathon Runner Update: Lynsey Christian
April 3, 2022
The 2022 Berlin Marathon takes place on 24th September, and 6 of our amazing supporters will be taking part whilst raising vital funds to support our work! We recently caught up with Lynsey Christian to see how she’s getting on.
How is your training going?
I have been injured since June 2021 and this has meant a long process of rehabbing with a physio, at one point I had difficulty walking for several months. Not being able to run has been difficult both mentally and physically. Whilst I am currently pain free 99% of the time, I am aware that things can change very quickly. Having to keep in mind that I am not where I was running wise a year ago has been difficult at times, and I sometimes have to give myself a pep talk to remind myself on how far I have come.
Being able to run again virtually pain free and getting back into a routine has been a real positive for me. Running is my therapy and is a time that I use to process things. It is so important for my own mental health. It is great being able to reconnect with some of my running friends who I haven’t been able to run with for some time. I started a training plan with RunStrong (Christian Varley) a couple of months ago and this has been invaluable for accountability and expert knowledge on hand.
I recently took part in the Ramsey Bakery Fireman’s Run series which was a massive boost to my confidence; and on 3rd April I’m taking part in the Manchester Marathon Relay with my running buddy Mel (Team LyMo) which will be the first time I’ll have ran this distance (a half marathon) in over a year. I’m also taking part in the Great Manx Run Marathon Relay with my friends Tony, Emma and Anne-Marie.
Have you got any fundraising activities on the go?
I was fortunate enough to be part of a Couch to 5K group run by RunTogether Isle of Man earlier this year, and the money raised from thwas very kindly donated to my fundraising efforts which gave me a big boost in funds.
I have organised a sunrise run and sea dip on Saturday 14th May starting at 5am on Laxey promenade, where there will be options to just run, just dip, or do both. I am asking for donations and I will be bringing merchandise to sell, as well as biscuits and cake for after! I’m also in the process of organising a fitness session at Next level Fitness in Onchan, and finalising details of a pub quiz, towards the end of June – details will follow soon!
What are you most looking forward to about taking part in the Berlin Marathon?
I would love to beat my current time for completing a marathon of 4 hrs 20 and I feel this is achievable, providing I keep injury and pain free up until that time. I am also really excited about the atmosphere and running in such a fabulous city and experiencing everything Berlin has to offer!
Support Lynsey with her fundraising!
