Stop the Stigma! this World Mental Health Day
October 5, 2021
Sunday 10th October is World Mental Health Day. This year, Isle Listen are asking the Island community to join the campaign to Stop the Stigma! and make a pledge to do something for their own mental health, and support those around them.
Taking care of our mental health is just as important as being physically healthy and the two are closely connected. Whilst it’s usually clear what we need to do look after our bodies, it can be harder to find the best ways to support our mental wellbeing. To encourage and inspire you, Isle Listen are launching their Care, Create, Challenge Campaign for World Mental Health Day.
Join our campaign and pledge to do something to Care, Create or Challenge yourself.
LEARN MOREThrough this campaign the local charitable initiative is asking individuals and businesses to pledge to do something to care, create or challenge themselves and at the same time take a step towards better mental health.
Supporting the campaign are Robinsons who have created the “Make Someone’s Day” bouquet that will be on sale throughout October. Sending flowers is a fantastic way to reach out and show someone you care, and with £5 from each bouquet being donated to Isle Listen, it is also a great way to support the charity’s vital work.
Those looking to take on a challenge could do something physical; pledging to walk or cycle to work or pushing to run that extra mile. Or you can join Isle Listen and Thomas Miller later in the month and get involved with their Sea Dip for Your Sanity which will take place at 8am on World Swim Day (23 October). The dip is an excellent way to prepare you to take on the day and any challenges that may come your way. You can sign up for the event via Isle Listen’s website.
While there is a growing awareness around the importance of looking after our mental health and wellbeing, the hardest challenge for some will be emotional – to be open about their mental health. It isn’t always easy to be honest with others, or even yourself, about how you are feeling. By challenging yourself to talk openly you can start to take charge of negative feelings and you also encourage others to be more open about their own feelings. Isle Listen’s community and workplace services provide support through training courses that empower people to talk more openly about mental health and equip them with skills to recognise the early signs of mental health issues and learn when and how to assist.
Isle Listen is entirely funded through the generous support of the local community and all funds raised remain on the Isle of Man. For World Mental Health Day, by making a donation, you will be supporting their vital work across the Island’s schools; educating young people and giving them the tools they need to navigate the mental health and emotional challenges they face.
