In February 2020 Johnny and Barbara’s son, Juan ‘Jukes’ Guy, took his own life. Since then, the couple have become closely involved with the charity providing support for a young member of their family.
Johnny and Barbara Guy on supporting Isle Listen ‘100 per cent’

‘We’ll support Isle Listen 100 per cent’ say Johnny and Barbara Guy.
Johnny and Barbara are part of the close-knit community of Port Erin where Juan was well known as a loving father, keen Manchester City fan and all-round larger-than-life character.
‘We never saw any warning signs,’ says Barbara. ‘Juan was so popular with everyone. His death sent shock waves through the community. The affection in which he was held shows not only in how he has touched the lives of people across the island and as far as Manchester, but also in how many people have been inspired to raise money for Isle Listen in his memory.’
‘More than £8,000 so far,’ adds Johnny, well known for organising regular fundraising quizzes.
When their young family member started showing signs of anxiety and was struggling to understand: ‘Why did Juan leave us?’ Johnny and Barbara were signposted to Isle Listen.
‘The atmosphere here is fantastic,’ says Barbara. ‘It’s clear everyone loves working here and the art therapy our family member receives is done with such a light touch. It’s not “counselling” or judgemental; it’s like talking to a trusted friend. Isle Listen is a safe haven that’s proving an absolute lifeline.’
Johnny adds: ‘The work they’re doing in schools and in the workplace is amazing, incomparable and innovative.’
Barbara says: ‘We hope that raising funds will help Isle Listen to provide more safe havens where people can go to, be supported and know that it’s OK not to feel OK. If that saves even just one more Jukes of this world then that will help to bring some meaning to losing our beloved son.’
