What are the event safety precautions?

Tough Mucka is a fully insured event, and all obstacles are signed off by a Health & Safety specialist prior to the event. On the day, marshals and first aiders will be positioned around the course. We’re very grateful to have St John Ambulance on duty throughout the event. Please follow advice from the marshals and event staff at all times to ensure the safety of spectators and competitors. If you are asked to retire from the event by a marshal or St John Ambulance, their decision is final and directions must be followed immediately.

You can read more about safety in the event terms and conditions and rules.

Can I bring my dog?

As the event takes place on farmland, dogs are NOT permitted. Anyone that brings a dog will be asked to leave immediately.

Do I need to be super fit?

Participants should be in good physical condition and may be required to sign a waiver acknowledging the physical demands of the event. If you are in any doubt, please consult with your GP before the event.

The course is designed to be of medium difficulty, and any obstacles that are over 8ft in height will require teamwork – one of the main themes of the event.

What should I wear?

We recommend you wear appropriate clothing such as synthetic, quick-drying sportswear on the day of the event, as well as a change of warm dry clothes for after the event. The official Tough Mucka t-shirts are quick-drying, perfect for getting muddy!

Participants should wear suitable clothing and footwear appropriate for an off-road obstacle event. Costumes are permitted but must be safe and practical. The organisers accept no responsibility for damage or loss to clothing or personal items.

Is there an age limit?

Participants aged 10–17 must have parental consent and be accompanied by an adult, who must sign them in and stay on site for the duration of the event. Participants must be aged 15 or over to take part in the full Adults Tough Mucka courses (5km &10km).

There is no upper age limit for entry to the event. Participants should be in good physical condition and may be required to sign a waiver acknowledging the physical demands of the event. If you are in any doubt, please consult with your GP before the event.

Can I take part as an individual or only in a team?

Anyone can enter as an individual or as a team. A team can be two or more competitors. Teams must register using the exact same team name spelling to be correctly classified. All team members must complete the same course. Team rankings will be determined by the time of the last team member to cross the finish line. Individual results will not be recorded for competitive purposes.

Is there a time limit for completing the course?

All participants must complete the course by 4:00pm on the day of the event. The course will be ‘swept’ to ensure all participants have exited safely and anyone at risk of not completing the course in the required time frame may be asked to retire.

How do I train for Tough Mucka?

Tough Mucka will see you using muscles you don’t normally use in your daily life, unless you’re used to crawling, scrambling and scaling walls. A base level of fitness will always help but the best advice is to get in plenty of stretching in advance. If you’re a member of a gym, speak to them to see if they can create an age appropriate training program for you. Above all, a sense of determination and positive mental attitude will get you far, this is what Tough Mucka is all about.

Can spectators attend and watch the event?

Yes of course, bring as many people as you like to spur you on. Along with the spectacle of Tough Mucka, there will be activities and refreshments available for spectators to purchase and participate in.

Please note due to the course being on farm land, strictly no dogs are allowed.

What happens if the event needs to be postponed?

If the event is postponed due to adverse weather or unforeseen circumstances, it will be rescheduled to Sunday 4th October. Entries will automatically transfer to the new date. Participants unable to attend may request a refund of their entry fee within 10 days of notification.

In the event of a postponement timing wristbands will not be available on the day.

Refunds may take up to 10 working days from the date of notification to be processed.
